    Description

    1933 Century of Progress CHRYSLER MOTORS Copper Ashtray Chicago World's Fair.
    Names Plymouth, DeSoto, Dodge & Chrysler.
    Slight discoloration from age and use (see photos). Could be cleaned (see uncleaned back) at risk of removing patina of authenticity.
    The grand exhibition, "Century of Progress," held on 427 acres along Chicago's Lake Michigan, ostensibly focused on science and industry. Hundreds of companies participated, quite a few nations showed up with their own venues and dozens of massive, ornate and temporary buildings went up. The organizers had originally sought a more focused agenda on science, but the financing proved difficult while corporate participation was flourishing.
    Each of Detroit's Big Three created massive palaces to their products and history.
    Chrysler
    had a test track, GM, celebrating their own 25th anniversary in 1933, had a working assembly line, and Ford's building was bigger than any other at the site when they showed up for the fair's second year. [hemmings.com]
