Description
Hi, I am Steve Pfeiffer, author of the bookCollecting Case knives - Identification and Price Guide
. I have been collecting, buying, and selling CASE and other brands of vintage and modern pocket knives since 1973.
I am offering some fine collectible pocket knives for sale. See my other auction listings for more collectible knives.
Case XX STAINLESS USA with 1 dot, 1979 stamping, 5197 L SSP.
The famous Case Shark Tooth, lockback, 5” closed. Case no longer produces this pattern.
A near mint knife - never used or sharpened. Original factory finish and edge.
Smooth action, great lockup, no side play.
Genuine stag handles, no cracks.
Calling the knife “near mint” only due to some light abrasion marks at the ends/corners of the brass frame.
Typically, this minor abrasion is caused by the knife rubbing against the leather belt sheath.
Included is the original CASE box, cordovan sheath, and “Use and Care” brochure.
This 1979 limited release was Case’s first production of the Shark Tooth in genuine stag.
Note that the blade has the pattern number stamp 5197 L SSP.
However, the box has the pattern number P197 L SSP. Evidently Case did not print special boxes for these limited production stag lockbacks. They were shipped in the same boxes that were used for the standard catalog Pakkawood version.
The box is all intact with minor “shelf” wear, darkened a bit from age.

Sales to USA Locations Only - Buyer must be at least 18 years of age.
Some states have started requiring eBay to collect sales tax on items going to these states. eBay has a list of those states that have started collecting sales tax in 2019 on online purchases. This is nothing I have control over and the sales tax is automatically added to your total by eBay if you reside in one of these states.

Any knives listed as having BONE handles have handles made of Bovine bone from the South American Zebu cattle.
