Description

This miniature screw jack in its original box was a souvenir of the 1933-1934 World’s Fair in Chicago, Illinois. Its box describes it as a "Jack in a Box - a miniature Simplex Screw Jack" along with its specifications: "Capacity 500 lbs, Height when closed 3", Extended height 4.5" and Lever Bar enclosed."
The approximately 3.25" tall jack is embossed with the World's Fair logo, "Chicago," "1934" and "A Century of Progress" Chicago slogan along with the manufacturer's "TKO" logo (Templeton, Kenly & Co.). The opposite side is embossed with "Simplex Ball Bearing." There are a few scuffs in the paint as shown in the photos but overall this screw jack and its jack pin are in great original condition with no breaks or repairs.
The souvenir box, including a Simplex stamp at the top, is also in great vintage condition with one side printed with the 1934 World's Fair logo and "A Century of Progress" along with the text capitalizing on the slogan stating that "The Simplex ball bearing Screw Jack demonstrates the only practical and permanent improvements made on Screw Jacks during the past 100 yrs."  An adjoining side provides a great vintage overview of its potential uses: "This miniature Simplex Screw Jack is a good tool for the Boy in Manual Training, or for the little chap who has mechanical toys. For Dad it is a real Tool for cabinet work - repairing furniture - straightening doors or window frames - adjusting water pipe and radiators - stretching Mother's shoes and innumerable uses." The bottom of the box notes that "The miniature Simplex Screw Jack is built in the same plant where the Simplex Jacks for Railroads, Coal Mining, Oil Wells, Shipbuilding, and for thousands of industries, are manufactured."
