    LIMA/LONDRES. black. 1. A financial letter dated 1826 from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Lima, authorising the payment of the equivalent of
    2000 pesos
    (rate of exchange 48 pence to the peso) to
    Francisco Bustos
    as a grant
    (gratificacion extraordinaria decretada por el Consulado á beneficio del Ejercito Lib(ert)ador)
    decreed by the liberation army.
    2. A bill of exchange issued 31 March 1826 by the Department for Foreign Affairs of the Republica Peruana, for 5200 pesos (exchange rate of 68 pence to the peso), payable in silver or gold, for payment of loans arranged by the Republic with business in London. The new republic was well established by this time, as the last royalist Spanish troops had surrendered earlier in 1826.
