War-date partly-printed D.S. " Abraham Lincoln " as president, 1 page folio, Washington, July 30th, 1862, the appointment of David C. Houston to serve as: " Addition Aide de Camp with the rank of Major".
Signed in black ink at lower-right, co-signed by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton and docketed by Brig. General Lorenzo Thomas at top.
Engrossment and signatures are a tad light, clean folds one of which crosses the top of Lincoln's signature, otherwise very clean and in fine condition, matted in beige and set into a black wood frame.
David Crawford Houston (d. 1893) was a career army man. In July, 1856 he was commissioned into the U.S. Army 1st Engineers Battalion as a second lieutenant.
