    Description

Landers, Frary & Clark made this carpenters whittler sometime between 1912 and 1950 in New Britain, CT.  The knife measures 3 3/4" closed.  The pins and bolsters are made of nickel silver and the liners are brass.  Blades and backsprings are carbon steel.  The handle shield is nickel silver and is pinned to the scale cover which is made of an early plastic composition.  The main blade is etched with the word "UNIVERSAL" and it's tang is stamped "NEW BRITAIN" over "CONN."  The back side of the main blade is stamped with the number "0369".  I whittled a case for this fine knife out of a piece of northern white pine and embedded some rare earth magnets for latches.
